District Attorney Scott Colom Releases Video “Farmers” Highlighting the Harmful Impact of Tariffs Supported by Cindy Hyde-Smith

Columbus, MS – Today, U.S. Senate Candidate and District Attorney Scott Colom released a new video highlighting how the tariffs backed by Cindy Hyde-Smith have hurt Mississippi farmers.

The video features Michael, a Marine Corps veteran and Mississippi farmer from Starkville who has been farming for 30 years. Like so many other Mississippi farmers, Michael is getting crushed by Cindy Hyde-Smith’s trade war, forced to let crops rot in the fields while bills pile up.

Colom recently hosted a roundtable with Mississippi farmers to hear how tariffs are making it harder for them to get by. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has been a vocal supporter of tariffs, despite Mississippi farmers like Michael making clear that they’re bad for Mississippi agriculture. In October, she even admitted that some farms might fail as a result of the tariffs, but she still hasn’t taken action to protect the farmers she’s supposed to represent.

MICHAEL FROM STARKVILLE, MS:

After 30 years of farming and eight years in the Marine Corps, I’ve seen a lot – but I’ve never thought that I would see this.

The tariffs are killing all of us as farmers. Crops are rotting in the field with nowhere to go.

We’re losing money, and we have no way to pay our bills.

Do you know what that feels like to a farmer to say, I failed? That – that is the hardest thing to do.

In the Marines, I learned a leader never deserts their team. We come on this hill together, we die on this hill together. And you can see that leadership in Scott.

To know what the people need is to speak to the people, and Scott is that person that speaks to the people.

Scott understands that the only way we can reach our full potential is to put Mississippians first.

Scott Colom is different. He’s what we need as a voice to get our message to Washington.

About Scott: Scott Colom is a seventh-generation Mississippian, proud husband and father of two, and district attorney who fights every day to keep Mississippians safe.

Guided by his Christian faith, Scott has dedicated his life to serving his neighbors and keeping them safe from violent criminals. Now he’s running to lower costs for families, save our Mississippi hospitals, and bring good jobs home. Scott loves his state and will always put Mississippi first – and he’ll work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, to get things done for us.
