Columbus, MS — U.S. Senate Candidate and District Attorney Scott Colom brought his “Mississippi Matters” Listening Tour to the state’s Gulf Coast and beyond last week, hosting in-person listening sessions with local residents in Biloxi, Gulfport and Moss Point, respectively, as well as a separate town hall meeting in Hattiesburg.

On the morning of February 4, Colom spoke with a group of voters at a Hancock Whitney Bank branch in Biloxi, then later that day met with several local residents at Handsboro Community Center in Gulfport and then another room full of Mississippians at Tootsie on the River, a local eatery, in Moss Point. The next day, February 5, Colom hosted a town hall meeting at Hattiesburg’s Jackie Dole Community Center. During each stop Colom fielded questions about his “Mississippi Matters” platform and heard directly from Mississippians about their concerns with rising costs, health care cuts and the lack of good-paying jobs across the state. Colom also shared his vision with local media during his listening tour, participating in interviews with It’s a New Day with Rip Daniels on Biloxi’s JZ 94.5, Biloxi-based WLOX, and Gulfport’s WXXV.
“I’m a seventh generation Mississippian, and I love Mississippi. I love the people in Mississippi…and I think it’s time for Mississippi to get a Senator that fights for us. Fights for high wages, lower costs, and to save our health care and hospitals. And right now, Senator Hyde-Smith is not doing that. She’s too focused on being somebody in D.C. and not focused enough on being somebody for us,” Colom said to Biloxi’s WLOX.
Colom continued: “What you’ve got to have is somebody that’s willing to listen, somebody that will lead with their values, and somebody that’s going to tell the truth–and that’s my commitment. I’m going to be a leader that Mississippi can be proud of and help us reach our potential.”
