State’s largest labor federation unanimously backs Colom to fight for Mississippi’s working families

District Attorney Colom: “I’m honored to stand with the working men and women of Mississippi”, “This endorsement shows that working people in Mississippi are ready for change”

Jackson, MS — Today, surrounded by union members from across the state, District Attorney Scott Colom accepted the endorsement of the Mississippi AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE) at a press conference at the Mississippi AFL-CIO headquarters. Colom has made fighting for higher wages, health care, good jobs and lower costs the focus of his campaign, making him the clear choice for working families and garnering the endorsement of the Mississippi AFL-CIO, a federation of more than 20 national and international unions representing thousands of working people across the state.

“This endorsement shows that working people in Mississippi are ready for change,” said District Attorney Colom. “I’m honored to stand with the working men and women of Mississippi who build our ships, wire our homes, construct our roads, and keep our communities safe. They deserve a Senator focused on fighting for working families–someone who goes to D.C. to fight to raise wages, bring down costs, and bring good jobs home to Mississippi. That’s exactly what I’ll do.”

“We need a voice in Washington D.C. who will wake up every day and work to ensure a brighter future for Mississippi families,” said Mississippi AFL-CIO President Mickey Carr. “That is why the Mississippi labor movement is endorsing Scott Colom for U.S. Senate. Colom has shown a deep respect for the contributions of labor to our state’s economy. He understands that strong unions mean stronger communities, and he is prepared to champion policies that support workers’ rights, job creation, and fair treatment for all.”

The endorsement is the latest sign of momentum for Colom’s campaign heading into the March 10 Democratic primary. Colom out-raised incumbent Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in the last quarter of 2025, setting a record for Mississippi Democratic statewide candidates, and has crisscrossed the state holding town halls and listening sessions focused on the priority, kitchen table issues facing Mississippi families, from rising costs and health care to jobs and wages.
