For too long, politicians in Washington have looked out for themselves, their donors and their special interests instead of the people they were elected to serve. They trade on information the public doesn’t have, hide who is funding them, and protect an unfair system that pays off for them while the cost of groceries, health care, and keeping the lights on keeps rising for the families they’re supposed to be representing. Mississippians work hard, play by the rules, and expect their leaders to do the same.
As a prosecutor, Scott Colom has spent his career holding the powerful accountable, without fear or favor and regardless of party. He investigated a sheriff in his own district who abused his office and worked with federal authorities to hold him accountable, even though the sheriff was a member of Scott’s own party. Scott learned these values from his parents—his mother, a trailblazing judge, and his father, a lawyer who has worked across party lines with Republicans and Democrats to improve Mississippi. In the Senate, he’ll bring those same values and the same standard to Washington and end corruption: following the evidence, telling the truth, and making government work for the people, not the well-connected.

Ban Stock Trading and Secret Crypto Profits by Members of Congress
No one should be able to use public office to get rich off information the public doesn’t have.
Scott supports a full ban on stock trading by members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children, requiring them to divest or move their holdings into a blind trust, with real-time public disclosure so voters can see whose interests they’re protecting.
And the rules have to keep up with how the self-dealing is actually happening right now. No official, however powerful, should be able to launch or promote their own cryptocurrency, take in money from foreign or anonymous buyers, and pocket the profits while setting the policies that make that coin worth more. That is the opposite of investing; it’s selling access to the highest bidder, often to buyers we can’t even see. When the people writing the rules are cashing in on them, the ones who lose are the Mississippians who just want their government to work for them.
Public service should never be a pathway to personal enrichment.
Strengthen Ethics Enforcement
Ethics rules only matter if they’re enforced.
Scott will support stronger independent oversight of Congress and tougher penalties for ethics violations, including fully funding the independent watchdog that polices Congress and giving the Senate its own ethics office with real power to act. When there are no consequences for selling out the people you serve, nothing stops a senator from doing it again, and it’s working families who keep paying for a Washington that answers to everyone but them.
Crack Down on Corruption and Public Fraud
Whether corruption happens in Washington or a county courthouse, it should be investigated and prosecuted without fear or favor.
Scott has done it. As district attorney, he uncovered corruption inside a local sheriff’s office and brought in federal investigators to hold those responsible accountable, because the law has to apply to the powerful, not just the powerless. In the Senate, he’ll fight to give federal anti-corruption investigators the resources they need, protect the whistleblowers who expose wrongdoing, and crack down on the fraud that drains the federal programs Mississippians count on, from health care to disaster relief. And he believes a senator has no business taking money from companies under federal investigation while the families back home pay the price.

Will Fight to Overturn Citizens United
The Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United opened the floodgates for unlimited special interest spending in our elections, giving wealthy donors and outside groups far too much influence over who gets elected and what happens once they’re in office. Mississippians deserve a government that answers to voters, not the biggest checkbooks.
Scott believes our campaign finance system is broken, and he’ll work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to overturn Citizens United and restore the power of everyday Americans in our democracy. Scott also supports reforms that increase transparency, strengthen disclosure of campaign spending and lobbying, and make it easier for voters to know who is trying to influence their elected officials.
Scott Colom has spent his career enforcing the law, not making excuses for people who break it. His parents raised him to believe the rules apply to everyone, whether you’re a violent criminal, a powerful corporation, or a member of Congress, and that the law should protect the innocent as fiercely as it holds the guilty to account.
